Wayne Dyer 2010 200h

Wayne W Dyer, PhD, was an internationally renowned self-development author and speaker. He wrote over 30 books, created audio and video programs, and appeared on thousands of television and radio shows, including HayHouseRadio. Dyer held a Doctorate in Educational Counseling from Wayne State University and was an associate professor at St John's University in New York. Despite a childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, Dyer made his dreams come true and was devoted to helping others do the same in their own lives. He spoke to audiences worldwide and spent the rest of his time writing from his home in Maui.

An Introduction to Psychology

The first proper popular psychology book I ever read was ‘Pulling Your Own Strings’ by Dr Wayne Dyer. I was about 17 years old, and it sure was an eye-opener. It taught me a lot about human beings. I was far from street wise at that age, having lived a very sheltered, overprotected existence. But through this book, Wayne Dyer taught me what made people tick and how to work them out. Invaluable lessons to a teenager about to embark on an adult life.

Over the years I have read other books by Wayne Dyer and I still listen to several of his audio recordings, in particular, Manifest Your Destiny CD.

I think it was 1992 while I lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, when I had quite a synchronistic experience regarding Wayne Dyer. I had walked into a book store out of boredom, for a little browse, not looking for anything in particular. I saw Wayne’s face on a book that practically jumped off the shelf at me. I loved the title, ‘Real Magic’, so I bought it without even looking through it. I remember also picking up one of Deepak Chopra’s books, but left it behind because it felt a bit above my head at that time.

Starting into the book, it soon had an affect on me. I began taking some quiet time and reflecting on my life. I had the habit of having the tv on whether I was watching it or not, and I stopped doing that, preferring the peace. One morning in particular, I decided to sit by the kitchen window enjoying the stream of sunshine and eat fresh strawberries in a conscious manner.

All of a sudden, I felt a strong impulse and rushed to turn on the television. There was Wayne Dyer, being interviewed by Canadian talk show host Dini Petty. As it turned out, in two days time, he was doing a lecture in Calgary. I knew I had to be there. I had no holiday time owing to me, nor did I have a means to pay for the lecture or trip to Calgary, a 7 hour bus ride. Committed to finding a way how to get there regardless, I spoke to my employer about it.

Not only did he allow me the time off on such short notice, he loaned me his credit card to pay for the trip! The universe was on my side.

Wayne Dyer lectures with Deepak Chopra

The lecture was wonderful. I was in for a real treat, because unbeknownst to me at the time, Deepak Chopra was also giving a lecture at the same event! I got to hear about his philosophy for the first time, in person, which was so much easier to follow than reading one of his books at the time.

In person, Wayne Dyer seemed like a gentle giant. Very tall from where I was sitting. He walked up and down the aisle where I sat, making his way from the entrance to the hall up toward the stage a few times. He looked very calm and in a world somewhat of his own. I saw a few people stop to say a word to him, and I was tempted to do so as well, since he was so close! But I just didn’t have the courage.

I’ve heard that Wayne doesn’t particularly prepare for his lectures. He meditates beforehand, and speaks completely spontaneously, trusting that whatever words people need to hear will come forth. Indeed, he appeared very calm, casual and spontaneous.

I’ve been a big fan of Wayne Dyer’s books for over 20 years and highly recommend all his books. I rarely read a book twice, but I have read ‘Real Magic’ several times front to back, and would still get more out of it reading it again and again. It’s a great one to start with, if you are new to Wayne Dyer’s work.

Review of Real Magic

In Real Magic: Creating Miracles in Everyday Life, Wayne Dyer teaches us about accessing higher levels of consciousness. He makes true miracles seem like an everyday possibility by offering specific strategic steps that anyone can follow. Mere belief becomes reality, simply by transforming the way we think about what is possible in our lives.

By letting go of preconceived ideas about ourselves, and instead of resorting to making assumptions about our capabilities, Wayne shows us how to move beyond these self-imposed restrictions and break free into a world where ‘Real Magic’ is truly inevitable!

Review of Manifest Your Destiny

I admit, I haven’t actually read the book. But I’ve listened to the audio book, it must be a dozen or more times now. The thing about Wayne’s ideas, is that you can learn more and more each time you listen to them.

In Manifest Your Destiny CD, Wayne talks about the use of meditation in attaining your desires. Through an outline of 9 principles that make it easier to understand and put into practice, Wayne makes the whole idea of controlling the outcomes of your life completely realistic.

He describes specific methods of meditation and explains how and why they work. By listening to the audio book regularly, you can feel the ideology slowly seeping in and transforming your own outcomes in life.

Quotes by Wayne Dyer

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Only the insecure strive for security.

Our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.

You cannot be lonely if you like the person you're alone with.

You'll see it when you believe it.

Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.

There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there's only scarcity of resolve to make it happen.

Everything you are against weakens you. Everything you are for empowers you.

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way.

Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.

What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds.

You leave old habits behind by starting out with the thought, “I release the need for this in my life”.
